Toy Helicopter

Postby t1t4 » Mon Dec 20, 2010 9:13 am

Made this as a Christmas present for my 3 year old nephew. I'm going to give him the larger Duplo compatible version. I printed the 1/2 scale (lego scale) version while working out problems with warping. I put the files up on Thingiverse link below.

This is the first 3d print(s) I am really happy with. Mostly because I think I finally managed to print larger objects without warping and can print in color thanks to the MakerGear color filament.

That's real neat! Thank you for sharing!
What did you do to solve warping issues?

Once I got my printer and the missing parts I will print my quadrocopter frame on the up ;-) Though I guess I will have to redesign it (below printed with shapeways)

Anyway, I think printing toys is real neat. Was your nephew envolved in the process? (picking colors, size)?

Bit too small/fragile to do on the Up! I'll say.

i was always meant to build a quadcopter... what motors are you using there and what props?

Perhaps I should make a seperate post and not highjack this one any further? ;-)
Of course I would adjust it for the UP; The main bars are 3mmx3mm on this one, most of the 1.5mm ones are not neccesary and can be changed.
5g BL as they where available at the time, 10g would give better results but where sold out back then. AirAce 3-blades cost arround 5 Euro for two plus 2,50 shipping (5g@2s=1,7A/~63g according to der-frickler.net, 10g@3s would be neat).
Board: TTCCv2, perhaps KKMulticopter later.

jimmy - those are great prints, congrats! :)

I'm sure your nephew is going to be thrilled, and expect requests from his friends for custom toys too! ;)

Go!
