Thank you Jose,

This is a great example I never had the time to make but noticed in my parts, the before and after replacing the extruder mount is really telling.
I hope this makes it clear to others that they really need this.

My friend the tool maker is still waiting for more orders, he is ready to produce these.

Regards
Drew

For this mod, does one have to absolutely cut the X axis slot to make it wider?

If you use the part I designed then yes you need open up the slot, it is an easy mod, dremel tool and cutting disk, I did mine in about 15 minutes.
open up the bottom edge of the slot.

Can you post the stl file for the 12mm part? I'd like to do a test.
Thanks

Interesting to note, my Afinia has a different extruder mount than the older up one pictured. it is much thicker and wider, wonder if people can purchase the Afinia mount or if UP! is also shipping this new part.

Apparently one of the resellers asked Delta Micro if they'd sell these stronger mounts to them so they could offer them to existing Up! users but DM declined. Thanks, Delta Micro!

I keep thinking that Drew's design could be produced by an additive process (Shapeways' stainless steel or "alumide" material perhaps) at a lower cost than CNC machining. Both materials should be pretty strong I think, and the STL is available on Thingiverse. I've already spent my $150 for the CNC'd part but it wouldn't cost too much for an adventurous soul to try it...

Aha! Glad to hear that that's been verified! Not that I want to take business away from Drew's machinist, but this brings it into affordability for a lot more folks. Are you able to modify the model so that it includes José's notch? Be nice to have it print with that feature already there. I'm not so good with mesh editors myself

Hello, are you saying you will be offering my design as a printed metal part?
If so, are you aware of the "Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 Unported (CC BY-NC 3.0)" on this part as it was posted on Thingiverse.

If you would like to contact me to discuss this I'm inclined to be helpful as a supporter of the community.

Hi Drew

The new printers now come with a stronger metal part to hold the head as the heads are now shipped attached to the printer. Not sure what it looks like compared to your part.
